Lakeland Electric and Water
LAKELAND -- Mr. Sanford Syrkett of Lakeland died Sunday
(July 3, 2005) of lung failure at Kindred Hospital,
Tampa. He was 78.
Born in Greenwood, S.C., he came to Lakeland from San
Diego in 1986. He was a senior chief petty officer in the
Navy. He also worked for the Department of Justice and
was a safety officer for Lakeland Electric and Water. He
was a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers,
Heartland Safety Association of Polk County, American
Society of Safety Engineers Management Division, Florida
Federation for Safety, aand National Safety Council. He
was a member of FMEA, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a
life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a
member of the Rose Heights Elks Lodge and a 33rd-Degree
member of the Masons.
Mr. Syrkett was preceded in death by his wife, Toshiko
Syrkett. He is survived by his daughters, Sandra Syrkett
Williams, San Diego, Sonya Syrkett Henry, Lakeland; sons,
Mario Syrkett, Lakeland, Gerald Syrkett, St. Petersburg;
sister, Mozelle Brewer, Greenwood, S.C.; seven
grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Coney
Funeral Parlor. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at
the funeral home chapel. Burial with full military honors
will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
