Jannie Taylor, 99,
LAKELAND -- Mrs. Jannie Robinson Taylor of
Lakeland was a seamstress and president of the Pastor's
Aide Club in her church for more than 30 years.
Mrs. Taylor died of respiratory failure Saturday (Feb.
21, 2004) at Highlands Lake Center, Lakeland. She was 99.
Born in Perdue Hill, Ala., she came to Lakeland from
Ocala 13 years ago.
Mildred Taylor Blake, Mrs. Taylor's daughter, says her
mother was a self-employed seamstress, and most of her
achievements were made in church. As president of the
Pastor's Aide Club for Covenant Missionary Baptist Church
for 34 years, she helped not only the pastor but also the
church as a whole with their needs, her daughter
Blake describes her mother as a kind, Christian woman who
loved her family.
"She was a very gentle, softspoken lady," she
says. "She always made sure we were in church."
One of Mrs. Taylor's hobbies was traveling by train. She
and her daughter always enjoyed traveling to Alabama,
where Mrs. Taylor was born.
She was a member of the Missionary Society.
Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her husband, George
Taylor. In addition to her daughter, Mildred, she is
survived by her son, James Robinson, Atmore, Ala.;
sister, Rose Ries, Atmore; and six grandchildren.
Services were at Coney Funeral Home.
