POLK CITY -- Mrs. Essie Mae "Ma Mae" Simmons of
Polk City died of heart failure Friday (May 23, 2003) at
Lakeland Regional Medical Center. She was 91.
Born in Haddock, Ga., she came to Polk City from Cordele,
Ga., in 1951. She was a homemaker. She was a member of
Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Polk City and a
former member of Britts Chapel Holiness Church.
Mrs. Simmons is survived by her daughters, Frances
Calhoun, Mae Miller, both of Polk City, Georgia Miller,
Rochester, N.Y.; sons, Melvin Taylor, Sylvester Gordon,
Timothy Smith, Dade City; stepson, Ernest Simmons,
Bushnell; stepdaughters, Louise Geter, Denmark, S.C.,
Bernice Stroman, South Carolina, Evelyn Simmons, Eartha
Ransom; 160 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and
great-great-grandchildren.
Services: Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Polk City.
Burial in New Platt Cemetery.
